PANTHEON

Foresteria Luxury Suites is located within a really "sky-kissed" perimeter. Just 100 meters from the Trevi Fountain, points of interest that can be reached from Foresteria are countless.

Among them is the wonderful Pantheon, just 10 minutes walk from the suites.

The Pantheon is located in the Pigna district, right in the historic center and was built in the 27th c. As a temple devoted to all the gods. Founded by the vineyards Marco Vipsanio Agrippa, it was reconstructed by Emperor Adriano between 120 and 124 dC. It is therefore one of the most historic monuments in Rome.

The building is circular, embellished by a porch of Corinthian columns to support the pediment and the feature that most of all steals eyes and soul is without doubt the hemispherical concrete dome buried by thick walls of masonry.

The dome ends with a large circular opening called the oculo, this opening provides natural illumination to the entire temple, ensuring "guests" a truly unique emotional experience. The dome holds significant records today: it is one of the largest ever built in the world and more precisely it is the largest built in non-reinforced concrete. Other interesting records include visits: in 2016 it recorded 7 398 536 visitors, resulting in the most visited Italian state museum site.

In the 7th century the Pantheon lost its "nature" of the temple and was converted into a Christian basilica named Santa Maria della Rotonda or Santa Maria a Martyres. It is currently owned by the Italian deman.

The Pantheon is an Italian property owned by MIBACT and since March 2015 is in the management of the Polo Museale del Lazio. The director is Giovanni Belardi.
